The polo rules have been written and are used for the security of both, players and horses. These rules may vary depending countries. This time we are going to explain a few of the fundamental rules of polo in Argentina.
In a polo match, each time tries to score a goal within 4 or 6 periods of the game called “chukkers”, each one of those are 7 minutes long and it has 3 minutes breaks between one and the other, which are used to change horse. After every goal, teams switch sides.
Also, there are some actions that may turn out to be penalties. For example, it is forbidden to hit between the horse’s legs. Players cannot use their elbows while ridding off another player. A penalty is a free throw to the goal area for the opponent team within a distance set by the referee depending on the foul made by ones team.
